These are excerpts and transcripts from oral histories collected by the Unsettled Accounts and Homes for Equity between 2022 and 2024. These stories not only illustrate the experiences of Black Bostonians who experienced property takings and losses from racially discriminatory policies, but also provide numerous examples of their resilience and ingenuity. The Unsettled Accounts oral history transcripts further articulate the perspectives and positions of directly-impacted communities on what repair and redress could look like.
