In spring 2024, the Unsettled Accounts team worked with the Institute of Contemporary Art’s Photography Collective Program to introduce Boston youth to the oral history project and practice of community archiving. The ICA Photo Collective is a paid program that equips high-school aged young people with photography, editing, design, and storytelling skills.

Oral History Event
The ICA Photo Collective hosted oral history narrators for a portrait session at the Seaport Studio. The teens were paired with our narrators and asked questions around their childhood memories, identity, community, belonging, and hopes for the future. The session not only supported intergenerational connections. They also provided the young people with inspiration for their creative work and personal journeys and allowed them to honor and care for the narrators through the act of portrait photography.
